Miroir, Miroir (2009)

"Miroir, Miroir" is a pointed work that digs deep into our definitions of vanity, perceptions of identity as well as aesthetical impositions made on women's bodies. We see the artist seated at a cosmetic littered vanity, reflected in several mirrors as she gradually applies make-up. As the ritual progresses she enters into a state of total disconnect from her own reflection, her expression stone then mocking. In a sort of sinister laugh, as if intoxicated by her own image, the artist stares through a clown-like mask into a mirror and our culpability, her ridicule deftly reflecting our own.
