ANTONIA DIAS LEITE, b. 1980, Rio de Janeiro, lives and works in Rio.

Antonia Dias Leite received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Parsons School of Design, New York and her Master in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, New York. Her multidisciplinary practice involves photography, video, installation and painting.

Her work investigates cyclical states of matter, in constant destruction, decay and renovation, as a metaphor for an individual's subconscious, memory and perception. Oscillating between representation and abstraction, her practice is marked by the emergence of images derived from free associations, portraying unstable worlds that often evoke something ambiguous or unknown.

Her videos, photo series and paintings echo one another, transiting between contradictory concepts; strangeness and beauty, fascination and aversion, pleasure and pain. Her installations are site specific, creating immersive environments which allow the viewers to have a subjective experience.

Dias Leite has exhibited in international venues such as: Beijing Biennale, New York (Stephan Stoyannov Gallery), Clermont-Ferrand (Videoformes Festival), Berlin (Grimmuseum), Milan (Arte in Sarpi Festival), São Paulo (Galeria Leme) and Rio de Janeiro (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasi and Museu Paço Imperial). Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Vogue Italia and Santa Fine Art (Brazil). In 2012 she was nominated for the Pipa Prize, an award offered by the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-Rio) and the IP Institute (Rio de Janeiro). In 2014 she was an artist-in-residence at Residency Unlimited NY for three months.
